You can insert multiple tables into your document from board items or subitems using different filters and columns.
ℹ️ Inserting multiple tables is a premium feature available in DocuGen Standard plan or above. |
Insert item tables
ℹ️ Inserting item tables is only available in DocuGen board views; it is not available in DocuGen item views. |
You can insert one or more tables of board items into your document. Say your board contains items that represent the activities for a project. You would like to insert a table in your document that contains activities that are completed, a second table for activities in progress, and a third table for activities that haven't started yet:
- Add a DocuGen board view
- Go to Settings > Item tables
- Click the "Edit table" icon for Table 1, rename the table to "Done", then click on the "Filter" button to specify the status that corresponds to completed activities. In the example below it should be "Indicative status" equals "Done". You can also specify which columns to include in the table:
- You can preview the table by clicking the "Preview table" icon:
- Click the table name to copy the table placeholder, then paste it into your Word template. You can format the table as you wish:
- Create two new tables: call one "In progress" and the other "Not started". Make sure you set each table's filter to show the desired items. This is how your Word template would look like once you've copied and pasted the table placeholders:
- Upload your template to DocuGen
- Go to the Preview tab. Your document should look like this:
Insert subitem tables
If you're generating a document from an item that has related subitems, you can insert one or more tables of subitems into your document.
Say you have an item that represents a sales order and subitems that represent the products on the order:
In the example above, we have four line items in the subitems: Two lines are products (USB Hub and Bluetooth Headphone) and two are services (Installation and Delivery.)
You would like to insert two tables into your document, one for products and another one for services:
- Open (or create) a DocuGen view. In the example above, you should add a DocuGen item view to the main item ("Universal Containers").
- In DocuGen item view, go to Settings > Subitems:
- Click "+ Add table" or "+ Add subitems table" and give a name to your table:
- If you want to limit the subitems based on certain criteria, click the "Filter..." button to apply filters to the table.
- Make sure you select the columns that should go in the table:
- Click the back arrow
to go back to the Subitems tab.
- Click "+ Add table" again and repeat the previous steps to create another table for services. Once you're done, the Subitems tab will appear like this:
- Open your Microsoft Word document
- Copy each table placeholder and paste it into your document:
ℹ️ Is your table appearing with very narrow columns? Check out this troubleshooting article.
- Repeat the previous step for the Services table.
That's it! Your template is ready to use: just go to the Settings > Template tab and upload your template.
You can also style the table as you wish, for example by changing the font, styling (bold, italic, etc.), text color, cell shading, text alignment, column widths, etc.

Thanks for the suggestion, Natanael!
I will drop you a word by email.
Is there a way to sort the subitems table?
Now the order is not the same order as the one we se in Monday and we cannot see any way to set it. Looks like is sorting by the latest modified subitem at the end of the table.
Thanks for your help!
Thank you for the question, Cristina!
Please be informed that when you generate a document containing a table of items or subitems, the table rows will be in the same order as your board items (or subitems) were created. If you rearrange the items/subitems on your board, the generated table in your document will not be rearranged accordingly; instead, it will continue to display rows in the order they were created in your board.
This is a limitation we are working on resolving and once this gets implemented we will surely let you know!
Hello.
Is there any update regarding this sorting issue. This is still a big problem for us.
Thanks!
