To insert the sum of a Numbers column, use the <<column_sum:COLUMN LABEL>> placeholder in your document template, where “COLUMN LABEL” should be replaced with the name of your column.
Examples:
- If your column name is “Amount”, you should insert the placeholder as follows:
<<column_sum:Amount>> - If your column name is “Extended Price”, you should insert the placeholder as follows:
<<column_sum:Extended Price>>
Important consideration: The <<column_sum>> placeholder works only for main items. It does not work for subitems. If you would like to insert the sum of subitems in your document, create a summary column on the main item and use the <<column_firstrow>> placeholder to insert the value of the summary column into your document like you would with any other column. Here is a good explanation of summary columns by our friends at Omnitas.
The <<column_sum>> placeholder will insert the sum from all the rows in your board. You can easily control which row should be summed using the built-in monday.com filter: just click on the “Filter” button at the top of the DocuGen view, then filter the board based on any criteria you want. The column sum placeholder will show the sum of the rows based on the filter you specified. More here.
Special Case: if you want to insert the value from the very first column on your board (which does not have a name), use “Item” for the column name: <<column_firstrow:Item>>
